Gary Hart

I first became acquainted with Gary Hart in 1972. Fred Wheeler and I were editing photographs in an office in the McGovern headquarters at 1910 K. Street, Washington, D.C.. Gary came in with a reporter, sat at a desk in the room and spoke with the reporter for a lengthy period of time. At the time, my generation was being criticized for not having positive goals and instead being focused on tearing down the world. Gary spoke at length not only defending the McGovern Campaign opposition to the Viet Nam war, but also presented an extensive vision of how we could move the world in a positive way. The vision he presented that day inspired me to work for him over a period of many years.
